It's all in your mind: Science is proving the mental and physical benefits of meditation
On 31 March 2006 Winnipeg Free Press reported: According to a large body of scientific research, as well as personal testimonials, meditation produces a wide range of benefits for both mind and body. The Winnipeg Free Press highlights scientific research on the Transcendental Meditation Programme and also includes praise for the TM Programme from Canadian Rabbi, Alan Green. It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring fulfilment to the field of health.
The article reports that a long-term research study on the Transcendental Meditation Technique 'found that the practice reduced risk factors for heart disease and was associated with significantly lower rates of death'.
Benefits of the TM Programme are also confirmed by personal experience. Rabbi Alan Green, of Winnipeg's Shaarey Zedek Synagogue, learned the Transcendental Meditation Technique in high school and has been practising the technique for more than 30 years.
Green says that after his very first meditation he was 'completely transformed'. He describes his experience as 'a level of silence, and depth, and lack of boundaries that I couldn't have imagined otherwise'.
Rabbi Green credits the TM technique for providing a 'reservoir of calm' throughout the demands of a busy schedule. He goes on to say: 'It's like being anchored in the sea. There's always going to be waves, but if you have that anchor, you can rise and fall with the waves and not be overwhelmed.'
Green continued: 'I don't think I could be a successful Rabbi were it not for my meditation. It gives me insight.' The Rabbi concludes that for those so inclined, meditation 'can be used as preparation for prayer'.
The Winnipeg Free Press reports that: 'The idea of turning inward to find peace, healing or connection with a divine source/higher self transcends cultures and faiths.'
An example of this universality is the Transcendental Meditation Technique, as taught by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, which, the article reports, is practised by approximately five million people around the world.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
